Attorney S. Marie Gates is a graduate of Emory University School of Law. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. In 1995, at the age of 23, she received her license to practice law in Michigan and was an associate at (fka) Patterson, Phifer & Phillips, P.C.
It should be noted that while in law school she did a summer internship in 1993 with the Alabama Capital Representation Resource Center in Montegomery, Alabama. A release celebration occurred the summer of the internship. With continued dedication to criminal defense work, she worked as a summer intern in 1994 at the Federal Public Defender's Office in Albuquerque, NM. In 1997, she relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. She worked as a public defender in Mohave and Maricopa County and nutured her passion for indigent criminal defense work.
Attorney Gates opened her own practice in October 2003. She currently engages in various areas of practice but primarily criminal defense, juvenile law and personal injury. Her practice is based on treating people fairly and providing the best possible representation to her clients. For we know that the law is good, if a man uses it lawfully. I Timothy 1:8.
She is down to earth and is involved in the community. She is a former HOA vice-president, former PTA vice-president, former basketball coach from 2001-2010 with the Litchfield Park Recreation Center, former licensed foster parent, attendee of Christ Church of the Valley and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She also served a one year term as a Judge Pro Tem for the Maricopa County Superior Court and is a former member of the Thurgood Marshall Inn of Court.
