Julie follows a holistic approach to legal services: she considers all aspects of her clients’ personal situation when developing a plan of action to achieve their goals and meet their needs. She has worked with seniors and people with disabilities for over 20 years, and two of her four children are autistic, so she understands the legal, financial, and emotional challenges of planning for and responding to long term care needs and incapacity while maximizing quality of life and providing relief and assistant to family caregivers. She got her start in the legal field with The Law Offices of Chester B. McLaughlin, PC, one of the first elder law firms in the Phoenix area, first as a public benefits legal assistant, then a paralegal, and finally as a lawyer. Chester B. McLaughlin, her former employer, is semi-retired and currently works as Of Counsel to Julie’s firm.
Julie is the only elder law attorney in Arizona who previously worked as an Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) Eligibility Interviewer and Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) Policy Specialist, so she has a unique and in-depth knowledge of AHCCCS’s internal procedures and is also well-versed in the eligibility requirements for VA pensions and compensation as well as other publicly funded medical and financial assistance programs.
She handles probate matters, guardianships and conservatorships, estate planning, trust administration, special needs planning, and public benefits planning.
